It is one of the oldest monasteries in the world and lies hidden deep in the mountains by the Red Sea. The Monastery of Saint Paul, also known as the Tiger Monastery, dates back to the 5th century AD. It stood empty for 119 years until it was repopulated by monks from the Monastery of Saint Anthony.
